Who can try out?

Auditions are open to all students entering grades 9-12, for the 2021-2022 school year at Heights HS.

What to wear?

You will want to wear solid color, preferably black, dance or workout/athletic clothing. As long as it is comfortable to move in and school appropriate you are fine. An example would be leggings or yoga pants with a comfortably fit t-shirt. The most important thing is that you are comfortable to stretch and move. Athletic shoes are highly encouraged, as you will be moving around. Flats, platforms, 'slide' sandals, skate and any other type of fashion shoe is not recommended. If it is all you have, please be prepared to work out in comfortable socks (we will be indoors).

FACE MASKS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. If you need to step away for a breather, you will be welcomed to do so.

Hair & Makeup?

For clinics and auditions, you will want to have your hair pulled back and out of your face at all times. You are not expected to wear a specific type of makeup. You may choose to apply face makeup or not. Earrings, bracelets, rings, and necklaces are highly discouraged for safety reasons with our flags. Watches are permitted, but if they become damaged during the learning and manipulation of flag items we are not responsible.

What to expect

After you complete and submit your online registration, you would attend three clinics and your audition. By attending the clinics, you will be taught everything you need to know for the performance on Wednesday. During this time you will definitely want to have a positive attitude, an open mind, be willing to try new things, and push your own limits.

This is where you will begin finding the joy that will help you through it.

During the clinics, we will teach you a short dance combination and a small flag phrase. The dance and flag phrase that you learn will be performed on Wednesday. It is very important for you to attend ALL clinics to be prepared for your small performance.

If you have any questions at all about auditioning for the Heights Visual Ensemble, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Caballero at matthew.caballero@houstonisd.org
